Court Orders Blumenau Family to Pay Fine and Enroll Children in School

A family in Blumenau, Santa Catarina, who practiced homeschooling for 13 years, was ordered by the Court to enroll their children in the regular school system. The ruling also determined the payment of a fine in the amount of 40 minimum wages, which equals about R$ 65,000.

The parents, identified as Diego and Patrícia Vieira, stated that they see a connection between the judicial determination and the public defense of Catholic faith values, alleging religious persecution.
